Whānganui Girls’ College is a well-established and well-resourced secondary school, located in Whānganui, a city and region steeped in both history and character. Whanganui has affordable housing and  ‘punches above its weight’ with a vibrant art culture and an amazing array of sporting activities and fantastic provincial city and regional facilities. Whanganui is an outdoor lovers’ paradise with mountains, rivers and sea offering tramping, hunting, boating, fishing, rowing and much more.

We seek a full-time, permanent Business Manager who will be part of the ongoing operation of the school both internally and externally. The Business Manager is a finance focused role with responsibility for effective management of the school’s key non-teaching functions including finance, property, and hostel. You will work closely with Board, parents, staff and other stakeholders to facilitate the smooth running of the school from a business perspective.

The Business Manager will be expected to demonstrate a range of relevant strengths and attributes:

  • Sound knowledge and experience in financial management and business acumen.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to build positive relationships with students, whānau, and colleagues, and be seen as approachable, caring and committed by them.
  • Understanding of the principles of Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Respect for diversity and appreciation of differences eg culture, gender, ethnicity, learning ability, sexuality etc.
  • Appreciation of the significance of school-home partnership,
  • Recognising and exercising the need for appropriate discretion and confidentiality,sound knowledge of school policies, procedures and operations as they relate to the position (particularly finance and property)
  • Competence in using information technology to assist administration and using our Student Management Systems (training will be provided)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills appropriate for communicating with parents/caregivers/whānau, outside agencies, teaching and support staff and students
  • Competence in adhering to financial and other deadlines
  • Proven capacity and commitment to work within a busy team environment.
